A friendly, affordable space for remote workers

Welcome to Leith’s only co-working co-op! Heya is a community-run co-working space in Leith, created by four friends who wanted a better place to work together. Founded in January 2026, our aim is to build a flexible and productive space where you actually look forward to being in the office.

Co-Working in Leith, done differently!

There are lots of co-working spots in Edinburgh that charge high prices for a bar stool or a spot at a crowded table. At Heya, you get a desk with a monitor and room to breathe, without the corporate vibe or the corporate cost. We’re small, co-run, affordable and built on shared values rather than services.

Who we are…

Heya is a workers co-operative, which means all users of the office are members and we share collective responsibility for the way the space runs. Now we’re up and running this is fairly light-touch, so you won’t be expected to take on an office management job in addition to the work you’ve come here to do!

Broadly, us being a co-operative means:

  1. We work together to cultivate and maintain a friendly, inclusive and productive workspace;
  2. Any issues or problems are raised and dealt with collectively (through meetings or email);
  3. We cover our costs (plus a cushion) for the co-op, but otherwise we are not looking to make a profit.

Yes, this is a bit different to your standard co-working space, we’re building a community to counter the isolation remote working can create. We want to make sure we’re creating an open and welcoming space, but we are asking for a higher level of commitment from members than more impersonal, drop-in/drop-out co-working spaces.

So is Heya for me?

We certainly hope so!

But we’d like to know more about you before you commit, and we’re sure you feel similarly. Below is a list of what our current members do for work, and a random selection of things we like. If this resonates with you then please get in touch.

The application process consists of a short form and a visit to the space to look around and meet other members.

Heya members work on: radical and collective approaches to internal policies and processes for organisations / ticketing for the arts sector / how to use data and technology to solve environmental challenges / building relationships and partnerships to move forward the energy transition / PhD research on participatory monitoring of community-based conservation / digital and web projects for a membership-based arts charity.

Heya members like: dogs AND cats (we’re open minded like that), crafting, disc golf, saunas, baked goods, badminton, board games, reality tv and cycling.
